Environment
BBI recognises the importance of environmental and sustainability issues and the related impacts of these issues on its activities.
In 2008 BBI focused on measuring the greenhouse gas emissions generated by the activities of its assets (as at 30 June 2007). This is the first step of a comprehensive inventory assessment that is being undertaken for developing appropriate management plans and reporting strategies in the future.
Carbon Disclosure Project
BBI recognises the climate change related impacts of its asset activities. BBI participated in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in 2008. The CDP is an independent not-for-profit organisation aiming to create a lasting relationship between shareholders and corporations regarding the implications for shareholder value and commercial operations presented by climate change (Carbon Disclosure Project Website: www.cdproject.net).
BBI’s CDP6 response addressed the direct risks and opportunities faced by BBI as well as any indirect impacts associated with the downstream and contractor activities. The emissions were calculated for the assets on BBI’s Balance Sheet for 2006/2007 only. The full CDP6 response can be accessed by clicking here.
In 2008/2009, BBI is looking to implement a range of new initiatives across the portfolio aimed to further enhance the environmental and sustainability initiatives already in place. For example, BBI is considering the accelerated rehabilitation of older pipelines to reduce outages and impacts on consumers. BBI also has the opportunity to invest in the introduction of smart metering and the establishment of wind farm transmission lines.
